I would like to stay in a village high up in the mountains, full of snow, with no cars if possible and with many slopes. I have been told about Zermatt but I can’t find a room there. Anything similar?

I’ll be going on a very short visit to Switzerland this 1st week of November & will stay mainly within the vicinity of the University of Fribourg. What is the nearest mountain or ski resort that I could visit where I can have a good experience of the Swiss alps?

Are there any good value ski rental outlets?
Can i get English ski lessons midweek?
Any good restraunts or hetels i should check up?
