Cookie Monster asked:
When you go to a ski resort but it starts snowing, do they sitll let you ski or do they close or something? What about when it rains? I heard they let you ski when it snows but not when it rains. SOmeone helpp. Easy 10 points

Yes unless there is some other reason to close (sever wind like 50 miles an hour) ski areas are open when it is snowing. It’s like a brand new trail each run that way. I have never heard of an area that closes because it is raining either, you get wet but the skiing is fine. Hope this helped
We will close the ski area only if the following conditions occur:
1. Lightning (it can happen in winter and I’ve been there when it happened.)
2. High Winds making riding the chair lift unsafe.
3. Weather, rain, snow, sleet, freezing rain, etc. make traveling to the resort so bad that the attendance is low…very low, or the safety of the employees traveling to and from work is unsafe or impossible.
4. Something freakish like avalanche or rockslide danger.
Generally, it has to be blizzard like snow with driving winds in order for a resort to think about closing.
Resorts stay open when its skiing and raining and everything else. The only time they would stop people from skiing is if there was an avalanche.
i went skiing in crested butte, colorado and snow was coming down in clumps and there was lots of it. they let everyone ski but i don’t know if that goes for every place. i’ve never heard of a ski resort closing due to rain though. i’m sure in blizzard like conditions they would stop people from skiing down the mountain.
if its snowing yes unless it is dangerious conditions
Rain at the resort where I teach is a very common happening, we judge the level of intelligence of the instructors inversely with their elevation on the hill, when the conditions get extreme. the real smart ones are in the lodge/bar. It takes almost a hurricane to shut us down whether it is rain or snow, but we try to avoid the real bad weather. We will list certain runs as closed due to rocks.
