Some good places in Gunma-ken
we have many nice ski resorts…yes Gumma, Tochigi, Sendai, Hokkaido, Niigata and stuff. Winter is the best season for skiing as we have lots of smow then.
Nagano is the best place to look. While you are there go and look at the monkeys at the hot spring.
Nothing beats Niseko in Hokkaido, but closer to Tokyo there’s the Naeba area in Yuzawa, Niigata. I thought Naeba itself was a bit overrated, but you can get a 3-area pass that covers the board park at Asagai (awesome) and the Kagura area, which has lots of powder and plenty of opportunities for riding off-piste. (Of course, consult the trail map or go with someone who knows the area to make sure you end up back on a trail. Don’t just set off randomly into the wild, bear-inhabited parts of the mountain on your own the way my husband did when i took him there!)
is the indoor ski slope near the beach still in operation? that sounds like it would be a killer day trip, spend the morning skiing and playing in the snow, then the afternoon working on your tan on the beach.
If your going to go to Japan to ski, then go to Hokkaido in the winter. There is good skiing on Honshu, but of course you get the Tokyo crowds. On Honshu Hachimantai is the early opener in late October, and Gassan lasts right into July. For good skiing though it’s really December through March. Hot springs are always nice after skiing.
Try the ones in Hokkaido they are less crowded.January,February.
♡My hubby is an excellent skier and these are his best picks.
Definitely has to be
☆’Niseko’ in Hokkaido:
☆’Shigakogen’
☆and ‘Hakuba’
in Nagano.
Check out the English links I included for all the info. We live here in Japan by the way.(*^o^*) Hope this helps!♡
