What ski racing discipline is the easiest to pick up and do okay at?

I’m thinking maybe it’s slalom or giant slalom since you aren’t going very fast. What do you think? Is it possible to start ski racing as a 20ish guy? How would you start? Are there any stories of people getting good (not necessarily a pro, I would guess that is not possible) at a relatively late age?

GS is usually the easiest. Most people start with GS and many NASTAR races are GS as well. I’d say 90% of my races in HS and college were GS races as well. You also get a very good base to move to other types of racing if you learn GS first.

Slalom is a lot tougher than it looks and I actually think Super-G is easier to learn than Slalom. Downhill is a piece of cake if you have the balls to go that fast. The first time I ran the DH run at Whiteface I was like “HOLY S#!T!” and I was just doing it for fun on a set of 200s. I tucked most of it but I pulled up a few times because I got nervous.

    Have Fun and Good Luck!!
