What time do you have to stop snowboarding/skiing and just go home for the evening? Do they let you keep going in the dark.

They don’t let you ski in the dark, some resorts are lit while others are not. Many of the larger resorts do not have night skiing as there is too much terrain to cover and too many accident could occur skiing off of the lit trails. Smaller resorts offer night skiing usually until ten or eleven but that varies according to the resort.

Generally between 4 and 5, depending on when it gets dark there. Some of the bigger mountains do offer night skiing, but not all. And for those that do, its on designated groomed trails. So don’t expect to be tree skiing at midnight.

No resort lets you keep going in the dark. To do so would be a violation of the land lease most mountains operate under with the US Forest Service and/or BLM.

For resorts that do have night skiing, the normal ending time is 10pm on weekends and sometimes as early as 9pm on weekdays. Night skiing is usually something found only in the Midwest, Poconos, and Lower New England..maybe some western NY too. Very few large resorts offer night skiing, but many more are beginning to offer limited access to terrain parks after dark. Basically you won’t find much at destination resorts but smaller hills need to offer night skiing in order to turn a profit.

Most, at least in the west and northeast, close between 4:30 and 5:00, but a few have night skiing. They usually don’t let you ski in the dark… actually I’ve never heard of any resort letting people do that. If ski patrol catches you they’ll probably ban you from the resort.
