Himachal Pradesh and Uttaranchal have some of the best ski slopes in Himalayan Ranges. The season starts from around middle of December.
In Himachal, The Solang Nallah slopes near Manali have ski runs of upto 3km approx. Solang Valley Resort has 5/7/14 day courses for beginners. You can also try the Timber Trail resort at Manali. They provide private courses.
Narkanda, which is 64 km from Shimla also offer good slopes for skier for 3 months during the year. The Directorate of Mountaineering and Allied Sports offer a variety of courses and facilities for skiing in winter season.
Another lovely option is the Auli Ski Resort, at Auli, near Joshimath, Uttaranchal. The resort is run and maintained by Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam. All the facilities and equipment for skiing are provided by the resort. To save time of skiers in climbing back again and save energy, there is a chairlift and ski lift, this is the longest ski lift in the country and was imported from France.
Then there is the Cliff Top Club resort at Auli. It’s a unique resort of its own kind at an altitude of more than 10,000 ft and is the second highest resort in the world and is the only Skiing resort in Asia which is located on the Ski slope/track {[ thats what I have heard]}. A Skiing package for 7 days can cost around Rs. 20,000/- per head .
