I haven't been skiing in a long time but my guess would be that some of the cheaper places would be the smaller ski areas. I used to sometimes ski at Sunlight which is near Glenwood Springs. A couple other smaller ski areas that I know about are Monarch ski area which is near Gunnison, and Eldora which is near the small town of Nederland. Of those three, I would probably choose Sunlight because there are more restaurants and hotels there, (in Glenwood Springs), than Nederland has and Monarch is much further away from the Denver area. I'd go in January or February since that's when you'll find the best snow. Anyway, look up those places online and see what you think.

Might consider Winter Park. Right west on I-70. Not real far from Denver. Has excellent beginner training and slopes. Reasonable rates.

To a web search. Use Winter Park, CO. Several sites for you to view. Has info on lift tickets, lodging. Etc.

1) Loveland Skiing area. December will be most expensive. Jan or Feb will be more reasonable and more snow!
2) Near the ski areas? Good luck. If you find something "cheap" let me know!!!
3) Search online. This varies dramatically!
4) Same as 3
5) Yes, bring snow pants, jacket, long underwear, snow shoes, gloves and hats!!!
